The Flat Planet | The Invisible Line Gallery

The remarkable thing about this show was how different the artists and their pedigree was, and yet how perfectly in-sync the pieces for the exhibition were. I met each of them differently — some reached out to us, some were seemed, and other were local artists and friends of the gallery.

Here’s my curatorial comment and go to the website for more.

The world was once imagined as a flat surface carried on the shoulders of elephants standing on a turtle. Today, we have such advanced technologies that we can view the earth’s surface from our mobile phones.

“The brisk, mappable yet ever more confusing realities of the contemporary life are what the artists in this show capture in their abstract, formal and/or fragmented creations. Their meticulous study of both positive and negative space, the void and the presence, creates mesmerizing art works each shaping their own physical and geometric universe”.

The Flat Planet is a contemporary oxymoron, reflecting a reality which neglects the static visions of materiality and space, thereby crafting new notions of linearity and fluidity by manipulating objects, paint and photos. The international vantage point of these artists is testament to the reach of this impression.
