Cities are alive. But I mean… really. They function as living organisms carrying other living things that like bacteria create their own entire ecosystems, leaving their beauty marks or signs of disaster all over the map.
The idea for the travel series I produced in spring and summer of 2014 was to trace these signatures of life, history, culture, and mostly of art, in seven European cities. These are old and infamous destinations that have remnants of powerful empires, entire ideologies, revolutions and artistic movements in their names. After a quick review of the historicity of these places, I looked for the contemporary scene that will define the current generation of creatives, thinker and producers. I searched for places you don’t come across on tourist guides, galleries you must see, restaurants you would have to try, streets you need to know, and bars you should get drunk at.
As a commissioned series, it was a challenge finding balance between my very particular, personal interests veering the show into a niche category, and reaching out to wider audiences. And as my first time producing, presenting and writing a show, overseeing the direction and edits, it was a tremendous amount of work which I loved doing. I also had an amazing team helping me produce and post-produce it, Siavash, Peyman, and Easta. This note is starting to sound really corny so I’ll stop.

وقتی میگن یه شهری زنده است، راست میگن. شهر‌ها زنده هستن، ماشین‌ها مثل گلبولهای خون توی رگ ها/خیابان‌ها جریان دارن، ساختمان‌ها مثل خاطره‌های قدیمی با سماجت ایستاده اند، مردم مثل باکتری‌ها کم و زیاد می شوند و شهر می روید. گاهی می‌میرد.
و اون چیزی که به کالبدشکافی یک شهر، یک کشور یا جامعه کمک می‌کنه هنر و فرهنگ اش ست. به ۷ شهر اروپایی رفتم، ۷ شهری که زمانی محور قدرت های امپراطوری، انقلاب های ایدولوژیک و ایدولوژی های انقلابی و جنبش های هنری بودند. اما من رفتم به دنبال فرهنگ و هنر معاصر این شهر ها. به دنبال نسل بعدی جریانات مهم فکری و هنری. از گالری تا رستوران تا پیدا کردن فقط یک سکو برای دیدن تیکّه‌ای از منظره شهر.
تجربه سنگینی بود که بدون سیاوش و پیمان در طول سفر نمی‌شد. مدت کوتاهی تو هر شهر بودیم و همه‌چیز رو باید در همون فاصله تمام می کردیم و می رفتیم جلو. از تهیه کار تا اجرا و تدوین هر لحظه چیز یاد گرفتم و کم کم سرعت و اعتماد به نفسم توی تولید بالا رفت. تدوین هم بدون ایستا واقعاً نمی‌شد و چقدر خندیدیم و حال کردیم تو اتاق ادیت. فعلا قسمت اول (پاریس) پخش شد، منتظر نظرهاتون خواهم بود.
